Really liked the buddy system idea! So important! Your guest had some good ideas, however I feel I must make a few comments about the presentation. Speech modification is a way to get out of stuttering moment and a strategy would be a pull out or ease out. The examples given from the fb watchers, easy onset and fluency shaping, are considered fluency enhancing tools. I found your title description of “speech room fakers” in bad taste to the children we work with. Additionally, at that the beginning of the video, after you stumbled over some words, you made a joke about how you couldn’t speak, and hoped you could get through and then laughed. I know you didn’t mean anything by it, but it shows some insensitivity toward the children who really do have trouble speaking. Remember, we are only with these children for a part of their journey with stuttering. We have to show that imperfect speech is no big deal. We have to assume that they are doing their best where they are at and are not fakers. This is a tough struggle for many kids and they’ll likely remember how they felt in speech therapy. We need to get it right.
Thank you for your feedback. I admit that I am not perfect and I will continue to work on my presentation and wording choices. Thank you!
