Here’s the 5 steps written out, and some of the information about 2 and 4 I felt was most important:
1. Evaluate all 32 /r/ allophones
2. Find a correct production (What is the best sounding production/which production is most comfortable for client)
3. Choose targets based off of those screening results
4. Using phonetically consistent production practice, using the chosen targets (Make lists of words with the clients best allophones and practice those)
5. Stay consistent and re-screen to check for generalizations
