How to Generate Custom Word Lists for Speech-Language Therapy
Hey!
I know you’re busy so I’ll keep this brief.
If you’re teaching speech/language skills and you need some word lists, you’ve come to the right place!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made it possible for us to create custom word lists for any skill that are tailored to the exact interests of our clients.
It’s amazing!
And I’m going to show you two easy ways to do that:
1. Using Pre-Built Word List Generators:
Ready for the shortcut?
Well, I’ve built an automatic word-list generator that is programmed to give you exactly what you need.
You simply input what types of words you need along with the client’s interests…
…and BOOM!
Instant custom word list!
And you can use this tool inside The Hub:
2. Using ChatGPT to Generate Custom Word Lists:
If you have an account with ChatGPT, you can also use that tool to create custom word lists!
Describe to ChatGPT exactly what you need and it will work to create you a custom word list.
Here are a few things to include in your prompt:
- Your role: “I’m a speech-language pathologist working with elementary-aged children to help them pronounce speech sounds correctly.”
- What you need: “I need a list of words that all contain the ___ sound” or “I need a list of multiple meaning words”.
- Topics or Subjects: If you want the words to be based around a particular interest or subject area, include that as well! “I would like the words to all be about Minecraft”
- Any other parameters or specifications: You can also include things like “make sure they are at a 1st grade reading level” or other parameters you may need.
Then, make sure you continue to ask ChatGPT to revise the list as many times as it takes to get what you need!
Sometimes the AI doesn’t get it on the first try!
What to Do with your Custom Word Lists:
Here comes the fun part!
You can use these custom word lists in therapy to practice the skill that the client needs to work on.
Have them practice reading them out loud while playing a game, holding yoga poses, or doing crafts.
Have them create their own sentences using those words.
Or ask them to make up a story using as many of those words as possible!
The key is repetition.
The more times the client practices the skill, the better they’ll get!
